Canadian summers can be hot! And summer of 2020 in particular has us all lounging around our yards most of the day. And if you want to know the best and easiest ways to keep your family feeling fresh throughout the week, the answer is drinks in the fridge, and ready to eat fruit!
A great way to make sure there’s a delicious drink for your family to enjoy is to batch make your favorite drink, store it in a drink dispenser like the KSP Soiree Beverage dispenser and store it in the fridge.
Bonus: the stand comes with the cutest mason drinking jars for Instagram worthy drinks!
Here are a few ideas for easy drinks to make:
Fruit Infused Water
Fruit infused water is so easy to make and really refreshing. It’s a great way to jazz up plain old water, with the added bonus of extra vitamins from the fruits. I recommend infusing the water at least 2-3 hours before you intend to drink it. You can store it in the fridge for up to 1 week and enjoy it throughout. The longer it infuses, the stronger and fruitier it will be! Here are some great combinations to try:
- Cucumber, Strawberry & Mint
- Lemon, Lime & Mint
- Blackberry & Orange
Watermelon Lemonade
Lemonade is another great drink to have in the fridge because it’s so refreshing to sip on in the heat. You can pair lemons with basically any other fruit, and it will be delicious. I love to make watermelon lemonade because watermelon is also in season in the summertime and usually tastes sweet! Here’s an easy recipe to follow:
Ingredients
- 1 large watermelon, cut into cubes (depending on sweetness of watermelon, you may need to taste and adjust)
- 2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (more or less to taste)
- ½ cup sugar (more or less to taste)
- 2 large handfuls mint leaves
- 1L still or sparkling water
Method
Blend all ingredients together (use batches if your blender is not big enough). Pour into the drink dispenser using a sieve and a spoon. Serve over ice with lemon wedges.
Ready to Eat Fresh Fruit
Another great way of keeping the family hydrated and not asking you for a snack every hour is to prepare fruit ahead of time. Most fruit can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
Use fruit gadgets that are specially designed to make batch cutting fruit easier to help make the process a breeze. Also, choose fruits with a high water content to keep your kids hydrated. Here are some family favorites I always have in the fridge:
Honeydew or Cantaloupe
Both honeydew and cantaloupe have a high water content and are really easy to prepare. They’re also popular with kids as well as adults. To keep my kids entertained, I love using a melon baller to make them into a fun shape!
Fresh Pineapple
Once I discovered this pineapple corer, we now eat SO much fresh pineapple! It’s one of our favorite fruits but cutting it up was always a chore. Pineapple is loaded with nutrients and antioxidants and it also eases digestion.
Watermelon
Can’t forget watermelon – our all time favorite summer fruit. If you get lucky and buy a ripe one, there’s just nothing better! I use a watermelon cuber to make them the perfect size.
Can’t get enough pineapple?
