Our President’s Top Picks: Dorm Edition

This one might be a tough one to get through.

I’m preparing to send my youngest kids off to university. And yes — kids with an “s” — because I have triplet boys. Milestones in our family have always meant triple the celebration and, in some cases, triple the effort. I’ve done this once before with my oldest, who approached move-in like a design project: Pinterest boards, room mockups, a complete layout of where everything would go. The boys? It’s more like, “Why would I need TWO sets of sheets??” So this time around, the theme is storage, simplicity, and low expectations — and I’m totally fine with that. Moving away is about setting them up, and then (mostly) letting them go — literally and figuratively. Isn’t that the essence of parenting through every stage?

1. The Goliath BagOur Move-In MVP

This new launch is a multi-functional workhorse. We’ll use it to lug all their stuff into the dorm and then tuck it under the bed for long-term storage — winter coats, shoes, that second set of sheets that will probably never see the light of day.

I’m grabbing a few for our house too — perfect for extra bedding, off-season clothing, and more.

2. Multi-Functional Storage Essentials

Cloud Ottoman

Great as extra seating, a tray table, or even a bedside stand. Plus, bonus storage inside for snacks, clothes, chargers, etc.

Noir 4-Tier Shoe Rack

If there’s space, this is a brilliant option. It holds plenty of shoes, and the hard top becomes a drop zone for keys, phones, or wallets.
Two drawers below are perfect for miscellaneous extras.

Sprout Stacking Stool

Ideal for smaller dorm rooms — works as a side table, spare seat, and adds a modern, minimal touch. Durable and budget-friendly.

3. The Sock Bin Tradition

This might be controversial…In our house, we’ve long given up on sorting socks. All of them go into one big bin in the laundry room — everyone just digs through and finds a match (or doesn’t). Some think it’s genius, others think it’s chaotic. In honour of that legacy, each of the boys is getting:

KSP Collapsible Storage Bin – Perfect for their own personal chaos (aka socks).

4. Bonus Storage for the Hoodie-Obsessed

For those who need to bring every single hoodie they own to school, we’re packing some extra clothing storage: KSP Rollstor Fabric Storage Cart – 4 drawers, on wheels, easy to tuck away or move around.

5. Hydration and Study Fuel

Thermos Icon Series Travel Mug  – Great for hydration during long nights of “studying.”

KSP Joe Ceramic Travel Mug – With cork base and lid — ideal for warm drinks at the desk (and spill-safe!).

6. Charger Chaos Prevention

One of the true joys of parenting: the missing charger mystery. To avoid the panicked “MOM I CAN’T FIND MY CHARGER!” texts, I’m sending a few of these:

Connect Heavy Duty High-Speed 3-in-1 Charge Cable – 10 ft, assorted colours. Covers all device types, and is hard to lose.

7. You Never Know…

Listen, you never know. YOU NEVER KNOW. They might just be struck by the urge to clean, so I’m sending them off with a set of microfibre cloths. Great for all types of cleaning.

Scrub Daddy Cleaning Multi-Purpose Microfiber Cloth Set/2

Whether your student is a planner with Pinterest boards or someone who rolls their eyes at the idea of a spare set of sheets, I hope they have a fantastic first year full of new experiences, personal growth, and moments that fill you with joy.

And if it’s your first time sending a child off to school — I see you. It’s such an exciting time, but that moment when you are done moving them in, pull away and see them waving goodbye in the rear view mirror? Whoa, that is tough. You drive away filled with pride, panic, and a strange quiet that takes a while to get used to. But you’ll settle into the new rhythm, just like they will. And you’ll both be okay. We hold our breath, blink back tears, and trust that we’ve done enough — that they’re ready, and that we are too.

I hope you find these picks helpful!
