Back-to-school is quickly approaching! Love it or hate it, I think there’s one thing we can all agree on. Ditching those slow, lazy summer mornings, for the hustle and bustle of the school run, can definitely be hectic but I’m all for anything that makes my lunchtime meal prep easier (who wouldn’t be?)!

These gadgets cut my prep time in half, all while letting me get creative and ensuring no lunch makes it way back home at the end of the day.

1. Over the sink colander

This KSP Stretch Over The Sink Colander stretches to fit any size sink. Throw it on your sink and washing fruits and veggies becomes quick and easy. Once those veggies are all washed up, it’s time to chop, slice and dice!

2. Multi-cutter scissors set

This KSP Snip-It-All-Purpose Scissor set works like a charm on tomatoes, peaches, apples, mangoes, and potatoes. It saves me so much time and frustration in the morning!

For me, a good set of kitchen scissors is essential! I need to cut up pitas, quesadillas, and pizza to make them fit into those lunch containers. The possibilities are endless! If you’re not great with a knife, these definitely come in handy!

3. Pierogi mold

Kids can fall into a lunch time rut. The things they loved last week are suddenly “gross” the next. I’ve found that if you change the look of it, they suddenly love it again! (Sneaky mom hack coming up!!)

I found this Mini Form Pierogi Maker and had an amazing epiphany! With this awesome tool, you can turn any basic sandwich into a yummy pocket of goodness! I simply roll the slice of bread out until it’s flattened, add my fillings, then fold the mold over and I become a creative lunchtime genius!

This time I added some pepperoni, cheese, and a bit of pizza sauce – voila! Little hand held pizza pockets that the kids love! (Try bacon, turkey and cheese! It’s a hit!)

4. To-go containers

These Locksy Click ‘N’ Go Snack Containers are the perfect size and allow me to add some extra pizza sauce for dipping and some mini bocconcini.

They click open and close so easily, keeping things fresh. Also, no problem for little hands to use! A spoon, fork and knife are all in this tiny container, which fits perfectly in any lunchbox.

This series also come in a variety of colours for when you have a son that must have everything green, and a daughter that is purple obsessed.

Sometimes it’s hard to get kids to actually want to eat those healthy fruits and veggies you’ve packed in their lunches but this chocolate hummus will solve those lunchtime battles. Yes, I said chocolate hummus!

Trust me on this. It tastes just like a yummy sweet treat, but it’s packed with protein and such a healthy (and sneaky) way to do lunch!

It’s so simple to whip up and can last in your fridge for a week.

Chocolate Hummus Recipe

  • 1 can of rinsed black beans
  • 4 Tbsp of maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla ext
  • 1/2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 Tbsp of water
  1. Add all your ingredients into a food processor or blender (except for the water).
  2. Blend until smooth. Add in water 1 Tbsp at a time until you reach the desired consistency.
  3. Add some of your favourite sliced fruits for dipping and enjoy!

The Locksy Click ‘N’ Go Snack Container really come in handy, especially when it comes to fruit or veggies and dip. The two compartments fit just enough goodness to fill those little tummies.

Lunchtime prep can be hectic. With the right tools, you’ll have it in the bag…. lunch bag that is!
